Sun Halo Seattle-055.jpg
An sun halo, also known as a nimbus, circles the sun over the University of Washington Arboretum, Seattle, Washington on Saturday, June 15. The optical phenomenon is produced by ice crystals in the upper troposphere, reflecting and refracting sunlight 3-6 miles above Earth. Photo by William Drumm, 2013.
